Cabrillo/Claire Lilienthal’s Campfire Community Service Learning Project evolved over the Thanksgiving Break. Within two weeks, our school communities were able to provide a recent blending of a families (mom’s caring for nine children) dealing with grief, trauma, and loss.
We connected with Northern Valley Catholic Social Service to adopt this family, created a sign up genius based on the children’s wish list, teachers shared the list with the families in their class to spread the word, we read A Chair for My Mother, a story about a family and their community working together to meet a need, created family dinner conversation books, Cabrillo 8th graders held a Bake Sale, a quilt donated by Sandy Franco was raffled off, families and teachers donated, students, parent volunteers helped shop, assemble bikes, wrap gifts, label presents, organize the incoming donations, load up cars, and drive up to Chico to deliver the goods.
The photos are just snapshots of the overwhelming joy in the process of giving back to those in need. Thank you for all your support, generosity, and thoughtfulness.
