Updates April 10

Dear Pacifica Staff and Families,

I would like to announce that at tonight’s School Board meeting, Annie Flores-Aikey was appointed to the position of Cabrillo Principal. Mrs. Flores-Aikey was appointed on the recommendation of the Superintendent following two rounds of interviews. The first interview committee represented Cabrillo staff, parents, district principals and district staff.  The second interview committee consisted of the Superintendent’s cabinet.

Mrs. Flores-Aikey holds teaching and administrative credentials as well as National Board Certification.  She has been a Middle School Principal at John Swett Unified School District for 5 years.  She was also a teacher of both elementary and middle school students.  She holds a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Sonoma State University and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley.

She was attracted to Cabrillo School because of the interest in promoting the Arts. Consistently, her references spoke of her connection to students and the strength of the relationships that she built with families and staff.

Mrs. Flores-Aikey will assume the new position for the 2019-2020 school year at the end of July.

I will be in the Cabrillo staff room on Thursday morning at 7:45am to share this news with staff members in person and then I will be in the multipurpose room at 8:15am to speak with parents about the announcement.  I want to thank the whole Cabrillo community for taking the time to share their thoughts regarding the important qualities and skills for the new principal. It is clearly a school with many important traditions and a strong sense of pride.  It was a pleasure to get to meet so many students, parents and staff and to learn about Cabrillo School.  Thank you for your commitment to the students of Cabrillo School.

Warm Regards,

Heather Olsen
