A letter from the principal – dress code

Good afternoon Cabrillo Community –

I wanted to respond to dress code concerns that some of you are having.  The Cabrillo student dress code is the same one that has been published in the red student handbook for a few years, long before my time here. I did not create it.

I can assure you that there is no rule against the following: Big earrings, belts, messy buns, scrunchies, yoga pants or even pajamas! You can certainly read the dress code for yourselves on page 9 of your handbook, but no ‘short’ shorts, no midriffs, no jeans with excessive holes have been published for a number of years. While we don’t say “no sandals” the dress code states that shoes have to allow for a number of activities safely (or change into PE shoes, as necessary). The dress code is not supposed to be gender-biased and we are careful not to state a boys’ code and a girls’ code.

I hope this clears up any misunderstanding or miscommunication that may have been going around over the last few days.   Please do not hesitate to contact me directly whenever you have questions or concerns.

Very Respectfully,

Annie Flores-Aikey, Principal
